Saginaw Texas

Saginaw was founded in 1833 by Jarvis J. Green. His first choice of a name was his hometown in Michigan, Pontiac. The postal service reject that name, so he settled on another Michigan city, Saginaw.

Saginaw was a lot smaller when my grandmother moved here in 1918 at 8 years old. When I was a kid, the Saginaw grain elevators were the biggest in the world. The Chamber of Commerce says they still are the largest. I don't know. We had to go to Fort Worth for groceries because Saginaw didn't have a super market. Now we have Albertson's, Wal-Mart, and various other shopping choices. The Eagle Mountain Saginaw school district had three elementary, one middle and one high school. There are now eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and a second high school. The population has increased from 1,001 in the 1960 census to 5,736 in the 1980 census. The 1990 census was 8,551 and latest information from 2004 puts the population at 16,550.

Saginaw is a good choice if you want to be near Eagle Mountain Lake, Lockheed, or Fort Worth Naval Air Station JRB/Carswell. There's lots of construction going on in the area. New subdivisions in or near Saginaw include Creekwood, Chisholm Ridge, Liberty Crossing, Innsbrook Place, Cheyenne Ridge, Trailwood, and Alexandra Meadows. Builders include D.R. Horton, Richmond American, Morrison, Newmark, Lennar, Beazer, Gehan, Pulte, Plantation, History Maker, Fox & Jacobs, David Weekley, Horizon, Sandlin and Goff.
